Cosmetic Quick Fixes for the Holidays

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Thanksgiving is over and now its time to start getting ready for the holiday party season: office parties, neighborhood parties, and annual Christmas parties all culminating with a big New Year’s Eve celebration. Most surgical procedures take a little time to recover from, so there may be other options that can get you looking your best without the down time of surgery.

There is still a month left before New Year’s Eve so there are some options that fit right into that time frame. A deeper chemical peel with a week to 10 days of down time can dramatically improve your complexion. Using a skin care regimen that incorporates Retin-A will also improve skin quality without any down time or recovery and it will bring about noticeable reduction in fine lines and wrinkles in as little as one month. Using Latisse is an easy daily routine to lengthen eyelashes and can show some dramatic changes in as little as 4-6 weeks.

If less time is available, consider soft tissue fillers such as Juvederm or Radiesse to plump up lips, diminish creases around the mouth and nose and fill in depressions which can catch shadows in the holiday lighting. These are easy in office procedures that take only a few minutes and have no down time or recovery.

Botox can be used to decrease or eliminate crow’s feet around the eyes. Botox can also reduce frown wrinkles between the eyebrows and on the forehead. This is also a quick in office procedure with no recovery and results are noticeable in as little as three to four days and peek after about three weeks.

Other less invasive skin treatments can improve skin quality and complexion with little recovery time. This could include Dermasweep to freshen the skin and stimulate new collagen formation or a lunch time peel that can also offer improvements to your complexion and skin tightening.

Whatever your short term or long term goals our professional medical aesthetician and surgical team can work with you to develop a plan to help you look your very best.

How does Vitamin C help my skin?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Vitamin C inhibits skin-damaging free radical activity.  It is also a requirement for collagen production, which declines as we age. Vitamin C plays a vital role in skin repair.  If the skin is injured its Vitamin C content quickly scavenges free radicals and helps to remanufacture collagen to speed healing. The best way to get Vitamin C to the skin is through a topical application. Ideally, this would be done immediately after some type of exfoliating procedure such as DermaSweep. It can, however, also be done by applying a Vitamin C agent such as C-Quench (by Physicians Choice of Arizona) after cleansing the skin in the evening.

Does getting a tan protect my skin from further damage?

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

No, a tan provides minimal protection to harmful UV rays that damage the skin. It gives a false sense of security and inevitably creates more damage from prolonged exposure without proper protection of a sunscreen with a SPF of 30 or higher.
